Adoration of the Magi – 8.5x11" – by Heinrich Lefler
This option is currently sold out.
This beautiful and stylish “Adoration of the Magi” was done by one of our favorite Art Nouveau artists, Heinrich Lefler. Although known primarily as a set designer at the turn of the last century, he did a number of illustrations for books and calendars which are considered masterpieces today. In this one, from a 1907 song book, the gorgeous colors and patterns create a highly stylized and even exuberant presentation. The heavenly host of angels can be seen in the swath of light behind the throne, coming down to adore Him. The magi are reverent, but the scene has such colors and patterns as to give us a sense of joy, like a celebration. As the Church says, we “celebrate” the Mass.
Like a good many of our prints, we believe we are the only source for this image in the world.
