This image was originally painted by Sue Kouma Johnson in acrylics and colored pencil.

In 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared to a 14 year old poor French girl. She prayed with her and visited her in the same spot 18 times. By the time of the last appearance, huge crowds were gathering at the grotto to pray, bathe in the miraculous spring water, and receive healing.

The little girl, Bernadette, remained humble and steadfast through many sufferings, at the hands of relatives, civil and church authorities, and disease.

The Virgin, now titled as Our Lady of Lourdes, told her that she couldn‰۪t promise her happiness in this world but in the world to come.

Lourdes is still the site of many healings, physical as well as spiritual.

IMPORTANT: Each of the 3 sizes indicates outside dimensions. There is a border of white left around the image, approximately 1 1/2" to 2" all around.
