This exquisite Madonna and Child is a late Victorian paper lace holy card. It invites you in and rewards your eye while you explore it. It is the perfect little print for the right nook or cranny, where the beautiful patterns will draw people towards it to find the images within. It’s something special that’s a little bit different.

Lace paper was a new technology in the late 1800s which they had quickly mastered and were able to elevate to stunning, intricate expressions. Almost always the lace was an adornment for a colored lithograph in the middle of it, but for this masterpiece, they just used lace itself as the medium of the art. We don’t know of anything else like it. The quality of the work is superb. You can even see some expression in the facial features on Jesus and Mary! This piece is attributed to the Bouasse-Lebel company of Paris, our favorite of the vintage holy card publishers.

This product is NOT the lace, it is an art print of the lace.

8.5 x 11 acid-free archival paper, with about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture. Cardboard backer. Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
