I love medieval Catholic art, and I think this one is especially beautiful. It’s a miniature, possibly from an illuminated manuscript or a missal. Mary and John are at the feet of our Crucified Lord. The Angels are collecting his blood in golden chalices, which reminds us of the Eucharist. The people in the village behind – which would have been the world we would have known if we lived in the Middle Ages – have been redeemed by Jesus’s Passion. It is a well-ordered place that lives in the light of Christ.
The original was painted by an anonymous German artist of the 15th Century. It is made of tempera colors and gold on parchment. This is a high resolution print. We have taken out the main staining and flecking, restoring it closer to its original.
8.5 x 11 acid-free paper with archival ink. The print will last for generations when kept out of the direct sun. There is about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture. Cardboard backer. Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
IMPORTANT!!! The image is smaller than the paper.
Standard size. Easy to find a ready-made frame at your local Hobby Lobby. If you're sending this as a gift and would like us to frame it for you, please convo and we'll make special arrangements for you.
