Wyeth – Beautiful Catholic Art

Jerusalem! For their whole lives these men have heard of this legendary place. The City of David. The City of God! The holy City our Lord took his message to, and where he gave up his life to save the world. Now, as Crusaders, they stand within sight of it, and they are filled with awe.

This has long been their goal, the city for which they gave up family and friend, the comforts of home life, and marched and fought their way across two thousand miles in order to take the city back into Christendom. What a moment this must have been for them! For some it must have been like standing before the gates of Glory. The picture is an allegory for us as we live our lives and fight the good fight, hoping that at our own end we will stand with awe before our own gates of Glory and the heavenly Jerusalem that awaits us.

This is a great picture, especially for boy's rooms, or their dad's, or anyone who loves the adventure God has given us.

American artist N. C. Wyeth (Newell Convers Wyeth, 1882-1945) was hugely popular as a painter during what is called The Golden Age of Illustration. His pictures were bold and dramatic, and would capture the emotional high points of adventures. This was a standalone painting, but he would often do incredibly beautiful illustrations for books such as Treasure Island, Robin Hood, and the like. He has another dozen Catholic paintings we hope to offer you someday, Lord willing. Oil on canvas on hardboard. Circa 1924. 40 1/2 × 25 1/2 inches. (source: brandywine.org)

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a blank border around the image. Approximately 0.5" wide for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14, and 1.75" for 13x17 and 16x20. For the two poster sizes, 18x24 and 24x36, we use 0.5" borders. We do this because the ratio of the rectangle of the art almost never matches the rectangle of the paper, and if it did happen to match one size, it would not match the others. Most fine art printers do this because otherwise they’d have to crop the art or warp it to make it fit the paper. The border looks good. It gives the picture a faux matted appearance. There is almost always a little more border either on the left-right sides, or the top-bottom, depending on whether the ratio of the art is wider or taller than the paper.

We make Archival Quality fine art prints:

– Acid-free paper

– Archival pigments

– Cardboard backer for sizes 11x14 and less.

– Above story of the art

– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal-clear bag.

– Rated to last 200+ years without fading if kept dry and out of the direct sun.

Thanks for your interest!

+JMJ+

Sue & John

Lincoln, Nebraska

“In order to communicate the message entrusted to her by Christ, the Church needs art.”

~ St. Pope John Paul II

Original image is out-of-copyright.
