This is Lazarus’s sister, the one Jesus chided for doing kitchen work while her sister Mary was sitting at his feet. Almost all of the Catholic images of her depict that episode, but it’s important to remember that she was a Saint, a deeply faithful follower and friend of Jesus, the one who came across him while looking for his body after the crucifixion. She is also the one to whom Jesus said, before he raised her brother from the dead,
“I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.”

This late medieval portrait of her is from a Dominican illuminated breviary made in Flanders as a gift from a nobleman to Queen Isabella, the one who financed Christopher Columbus. Martha is shown with medieval kitchen utensils, including keys to the pantry and possibly a cookbook. She is the patron Saint of Housewives and Cooks.

The print is really sharp, and the colors are rich. We print it on special art paper with archival quality pigments, rated to last for many generations without fading when kept out of the direct sun.

Standard size. Easy to find a ready-made frame at your local Hobby Lobby. We recommend a wooden frame for this one, of course, either stained or one of the colors in the painting that match your walls. If you're sending this as a gift and would like us to frame it for you, please convo and we'll make special arrangements for you.

– 8.5 x 11" acid-free paper
– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
– Cardboard backer
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.

** IMPORTANT ** There is about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture, so the image is smaller than the paper.
