Wearing a wig over her habit, St Therese in this photograph is performing the role of Joan of Arc in a play she'd written about the Saint. There was a huge fascination with Joan in Western civilization at that time, the late 1800s, which culminated in Joan being canonized in 1920, just a few years before Therese in 1925.

The picture was taken in the convent by Celine during the 1895 performance. The original negative has been lost and the only print is in terrible shape. We have painstakingly restored the image, using new artificial intelligence software, making it the only restoration available anywhere in the world, that we know of.

It's unusual to see Therese with a wig. You can see her wimple (the white veil nuns wrap around their heads) at the base of her neck. The only other photograph from the play that we offer in our shop is the extreme closeup of her face, where you don't notice the hair so much. Is this the way Therese will look in Heaven? Complete with her crown of roses? We don't know, but we like seeing our friend acting out the heroic Joan, who followed Christ closely, even though it came at such a cost.

!!!IMPORTANT !!! The image is smaller than the paper! We leave a white border of blank paper around the image! The border is about 1.3" for 8.5x11 and about 1.6" on 11x14.

-8.5 x 11 or 11x14 acid-free paper. Image is smaller!!
-Cardboard backer.
-Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag
-Comes with the above story of the image.
