Hail Holy Queen
Antique Holy Card - Anonymous Artist

This charming vintage French holy card is one of the most unique we've ever seen. We've wanted to offer it since we first saw it years ago, but the copy we had wasn't fine enough. Recently we were thrilled to find a much cleaner, sharper copy that we could restore! It's from the late 1800s, with early Art Nouveau touches in the foliage and the filigree. The column of the tree is strikingly lined up with Mary and Jesus and would have been recognizable to people at the time as the Tree of Jesse. Roses represent the Passion, and lilies represent purity. Flowers at the feet in Catholic art signify renewal. As for the doves at their feet and the sheep in the background, they are you and me, my friend.

The Latin at the bottom translates literally into "Hail Queen Mother of Mercy," or as we say it in our prayer in English, "Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy," (....our life, our sweetness and our hope.) The name in the lower left, ANGERS, we think signifies the city in France and the name of the publisher there, and E.O. in French publishing often stands for Edition Originale. It certainly is original; out of the many thousands of vintage holy cards we have seen, this has one of the most singular compositions. We have never heard of this holy card company, or seen work by this artist before, but we hope to find more, as this one is so calm and beautiful.

** IMPORTANT ** There is a white border around the image! The image is smaller than the paper! Sizes below

- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.

** IMPORTANT ** There is a blank border all around the image of about .5" for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, All Approx! The white space around picture means the image is smaller than the paper. It gives the framed picture a matted look without using a matt.
