Morning prayer, looking outward. Looking away from the cozy small cell of our self and turning our hearts towards God. In her room, this young woman has her pet cat, and her pet bird in a cage, which are fine. She has the spindle and the spinning wheel, which are important but not enough. There is even a shrine over her bed, which might be enough comfort sometimes, as a reminder of the presence of God. But there is something about looking out on the fresh world, of seeing how vast it is and feeling our place in it, which can help turn our minds to God in a special way, and help us place ourselves in the palm of His hand.
Antonín Dvořák (1817–1881) was a Czech painter, with the same name as the Czech music composer who would come along a few decades later. Like his composer namesake, he would take folk material, such as this young peasant woman, and arrange it comfortably in a formal structure. There are not a lot of his paintings on the internet, but he clearly had the skills. This painting sold in Prague in 2014 for $8,941US. 1869. Oil on canvas. 89x70 cm. (source: www.mutualart.com)
** IMPORTANT ** There is about an inch-and-a-third of white space around the picture in the 8.5x11 size, so the IMAGE IS SMALLEER THAN THE PAPER! For 11x14, the border is about 1.6 inches, and for 5x7, the border is about .5 inch. For larger sizes, we make them 1.75", but we have some flexiblity in this, if you want to reah out to us. Fine art printers can almost never print to the edge of the picture wihout ruining the picure because the rectangle of the painting has a different ratio than than rectangles of the various paper sizes. All borders are approximate!
– Acid-free paper
– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
– Cardboard backer
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
Thanks for your interest!
