This is a traditional memorial / funeral card. We think it's beautiful, and we offer it as a printable download so you can have timely use of it for a funeral card. If you want to make a print of it, too, that's okay. We also offer this as a ready-made card. Search our shop for "meorial card."
RIP means Rest in Peace, but originally it was in Latin, Requiescat In Pace, which means the same. The phrase was used on Christian graves at least as early as the 700s AD when Latin was the universal language of the Church. This was just after the English language got started.
Originally published by Louis Turgis of Paris, one of the great holy card publishers of the 19th Century. It is a richly colored and respectful card.
We have ready made funeral cards of this image in our shop. Search "memorial cards." If you select this digital versoin, we offer it for personal use only, not for digital resale or making prints for resale. Printing companies and funeral homes are offered a one-time-use license.
The downloadable digital file comes without the watermark and is much larger than the illustration shown with this listing.
Thank you for your interest in traditional Catholic art!
