"First Communion"
Antique Holy Card -- Anonymous Artist

We fell in love at first sight with this one. The piety of the figures, the quiet tenderness of Jesus, the rich symbolism and iconography, the sumptuous colors, the exquisite detail - to us, this is vintage Catholic art at its best! Besides Jesus and the Angels, that's St. Agnes and St. Aloysius Gonzaga ushering our little ones into full communion with the Faith.

Love it as we did, we had to spend days removing stains and blemishes and lost portions, meticulously working pixel by pixel, restoring this as closely as we could to its original beauty. And while we were at it, we made two: One, the original, with Jesus facing the boy, and a second one with Jesus facing the girl. Available either way, so that if this is a gift to a girl first communicant, she doesn't get the impression it's for her brother.

We think this looks great on any Catholic wall, and of course, it's a fantastic gift for first communion. Beauty is one of the inroads to God, and this beautiful picture helps remind anyone, young or old, that Jesus is the one giving us the Eucharist. We find that devotional art around the house helps keep us mindful of our faith.

For framing, we recommend a gold matte with a dark wood frame, either simple or ornate, with possible touches of gold on it. You'll have lots of good choices at Hobby Lobby or online. If you want us to do the framing, convo us, and we'll make special arrangements to get you something you like. You don't have to matte this, as the white border on our prints looks good with just a frame.

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.

- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
