We find this a dear and delicate image, its style in harmony with its subject, the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In Victorian holy cards, the dove, while often the Holy Spirit, is just as often a symbol for the viewer, the Christian faithful. So there we are, nestled close to our Mother.
For this old and long out-of-copyright card, we removed the staining and the yellowing of the background, keeping just a bit of the beige to preserve the look of the original paper texture and its antique flavor. We cropped this for modern tastes, featuring Mary's heart. The original had lots of elaborate, die-cut paper doily around it, which was a technology they were perfecting, but it doesn't translate too well into art prints. The Victorian aesthetic can distract from the central subject.
A new friend of ours said this about the image, "What struck my friend and myself about this particular image is that it depicts Mary's relationship to both her human and divine spouses and also to her motherhood of Jesus, and the suffering she endured alongside of him. It is just such a powerful, yet gentle and gorgeous image of her Heart."
We hope you enjoy this. Devotional artwork in the home can help the hearts of those who see it.
We print this one on natural cotton paper, slightly creamy, to harmonize with the holy card. This image should look almost exactly the same for many generations if kept dry and left out of the sun. Our archival prints evangelize forward into time!
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
Thanks for your interest!
Thanks!
