Mother Teresa, or as she's now known, St Teresa of Calcutta, was the worldwide symbol for Christian love and service in the latter decades of the 20th Century. More than anyone else at the time, even Pope John Paull II, she was the representative of the Christian faith to the non-believing world.
This photograph captures the joy of her spirit. This is the joy of the Christian life, a life sometimes of suffering, but one of meaning and purpose.
Her service to the poorest of the poor in India was like the work of Christ. She brought love and dignity to those dying alone, utterly poor. She was also a worldwide advocate against the violence of abortion, and she opened up hospices in the early days of the AIDS epidemic to help those people, mostly gay men, have a place where they were loved and cared for and could die with dignity.
It is hard to overstate Mother Teresa's impact on the lives of so many she helped, or what impact she had on world opinion of the cause of Christ.
This was taken by the by the photographer Túrelio in 1986 and released under the Creative-Commons license BY-SA. The original photo is in color, but we preferred making it b&w and leaving the blue stripes in. It fits in with our series of restored photos of Saints. We hope this one, like all of our photos, helps you draw closer to Christ.
!!!!! IMPORTANT!!!! IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border around the image. About 1/2" on 5x7, 1.3" on 8.5x11, 1.6" on 11x14 and larger. It gives the print a finished look when framed without a matt.
