This picture of the Agony in the Garden is one of the most beautiful we’ve seen. On the back of the card, we have put “The Prayer of Sadness,” by Fr. Walter Ciszek, which lets us connect our own sadness to our Lord’s, so he can do something with it. Originally this was made by a French card maker, or perhaps Italian, about 1900.
Fr. Walter Ciszek was an American Jesuit priest. He authored several books, and was arrested by the Soviets during World War II. The communists tortured him and kept him in solitary confinement for 5 years. After the war, they didn't kill him, but kept him as a prisoner until the 1960s. While he was a prisoner, he spent much time evangelizing. He was eventually released and returned to the United States. He is currently a Servant of God.
