Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879) was a young French peasant girl who in 1858 had visions of a beautiful lady. When asked for her name, she said "I am the Immaculate Conception." This phrase was a matter of arcane theological import at the time about the Virgin Mary, not something a barely educated peasant girl would have known. If you don't know Bernadette's story, it is a wonderful one, and she's a wonderful Saint.
This print is based on a holy card from Louis Turgis & Co., one of the premier holy card makes of that time. It's one of our favorites, a real beauty. It took us days to restore it to its original beauty. Sue had to get in a do a lot of painterly work with it to fix the damage, aging, and printing flaws.
** IMPORTANT ** The image is smaller than the paper! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11, or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. The border gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in frames without using a matt.
- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
