He got into radio early as an evangelist, and continued when television came along, becoming one of the most popular American figures of the mid-Century, winning countless souls over for the cause of Christ. He is joining the ranks of local American holy ones and is a powerful intercessor. He is from the Peoria, IL diocese, but served as bishop in New York. In 1979 St. John Paul II made a visit to Bishop Sheen's diocese and told him he was a "loyal son of the Church." Blessed Fulton Sheen, pray for us!
