Halloween is the short name for All Hallows Eve, the day before All Saints Day. It's like how Christmas Eve is the day before Christmas Day. Halloween is a Christian holiday, it's not for devils and witches, and it is good for us to let our children know that.

This card will help. The front has an American postcard from circa 1920. On the back is a trick-or-treat prayer from a girl's notebook in 1891. The sing-song prayer is giving blessings and asking for "soul-cakes." Soul-cakes are like little scones, kind of like a shortbread cookie with nutmeg or cinnamon or bits of fruit. This what was children had been trick-or-treating for since the 1600s, singing, praying, and begging for sweet snacks. The children would get the treat, and they would say prayers for the treat-giver's deceased family, in preparation for All Saints and All Souls Days.

Halloween holy cards are a perfect thing to hand out along with the candy at a trunk or treat, or from your front door. Children love holy cards, and they are a fun way to help teach children that Halloween is an important Christian holiday.
