This cozy picture of a chapel in the woods warms our hearts. It was done by one of our favorite Catholic artists, Matthäus Schiestl (1869-1939), a German artist who was known primarily for doing Catholic pictures, mostly of Jesus and Mary, in settings of the German forest. They are all wonderful, with a personal, secluded feel, a mixture of heartwarming and mystical.

The paintings were turned into holy cards, which were very popular and can still be found today as antiques. He also did altar pieces, portraits, and even German postage stamps. He usually worked in small sizes. This one was larger than some of his others we've seen, at 25.2x18.5 inches, although he has some that are bigger still. Oil on plywood. The painting is called in German, "Frau an einer Waldkapelle."

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.

- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
