This is it. The moment when David's trust in the Lord was to be vindicated before Israel and their pagan enemies. What a great piece of illustration! I'm a big fan of the artist, N. C. Wyeth. He had a flair for finding the dramatic moments of a story, which made him a great illustrator. But more than that, I love his abundance of colors! And so many of them unexpected in a picture, but how beautiful they are and how well they fit together.
Not only is this a vivid picture of a Bible story, but it is also a wonderful picture to have on the wall to help encourage people when they are dwarfed by huge problems they did not ask for, and they have to confront them. Great action picture for a boy's room, but girl's face giants too! And don't forget all of us grown-ups who suffer great sorrow and struggle with problems.
American artist N. C. Wyeth (Newell Convers Wyeth, 1882-1945) was hugely popular as a painter during what is called The Golden Age of Illustration. His pictures were bold and dramatic and would capture the emotional high points of adventures.
This picture was part of a series oof Bible stories; they are all awesome, and we hope to offer more. Wyeth did some of the best illustrations ever for books such as Treasure Island, Robin Hood, and the like. Stay tuned for what we hope is a generous sample of his Catholic-themed work here in our shop. Wyeth made this one in 1929. Oil on canvas. 43 1/8 × 32 1/4 in.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a blank border around the image. Approximately 0.5" wide for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14, and 1.75" for 13x17 and 16x20. For the two poster sizes, 18x24 and 24x36, we use 0.5" borders. We do this because the ratio of the rectangle of the art almost never matches the rectangle of the paper, and if it did happen to match one size, it would not match the others. Most fine art printers do this because otherwise they’d have to crop the art or warp it to make it fit the paper. The border looks good. It gives the picture a faux matted appearance. There is almost always a little more border either on the left-right sides, or the top-bottom, depending on whether the ratio of the art is wider or taller than the paper.
We make Archival Quality fine art prints:
– Acid-free paper
– Archival pigments
– Cardboard backer for sizes 11x14 and less.
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal-clear bag.
– Rated to last 200+ years without fading if kept dry and out of the direct sun.
Thanks for your interest!
