We thought the boys might prefer this one. A crow is a tough bird. They’re known for scolding humans as though in judgement. They are also known in the Bible for feeding Elijah, and in Christian history for feeding some Saints, including St. Paul the Hermit, St. Anthony the Abbot, and the great St. Benedict, among others.

Plus the pumpkin is carved in a bold, snappy way. On the back we tell the reader that carving faces in pumpkins was an Irish folk custom to ward off evil spirits. Originally, they used turnips and potatoes, but stepped up to pumpkins when they crossed over the ocean to America. What an abundant country, that could waste a pumpkin like that!

We also share on the back a little bit of history of Halloween as the All Hallows’ Eve, the night before All Hallows’ Day (All Saints’ Day), and that it was started around 600.

The prayer on the back is a serious, big boy prayer, too. Actually, it’s good for any of us, that we remember the Saints and ask to be inspired by their lives.

We’ve got four Halloween cards for kids in this series, and four more for older children to adults. Search our shop for “Halloween”. The hope is that the Lord will let us push back on the dark forces and retake the holy eve of His Saints from all the wickedness and confusion it swelters in now. May he let us all do our little bit.

Great card for handing out, either from your front porch, on in a Trunk or Treat party. Also great for Catholic teachers who want to teach a little bit about the holiday, as well as CCD teachers. Something fun and clean, and something we know from first-hand experience that children will like.
