The scene from Mathew 28, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary have gone to the tomb of Jesus to find it empty, and they are told by the angel, "He is not here, He has risen from the dead." The Gospel says they were frightened but overjoyed. What wonderful news! Our innocent Savior has lain down his own life so that he might take it up again, and that we might follow.

We’re not sure when this charming old holy card was made. Maybe around 1880? 1890? It is in the style of the northern European holy cards, like Belgium, but it is in English, so we're a bit mystified. Beautiful holy cards are rarely in English. We'll see if we can track down its provenance and update this description.

The Gospel story in Mark 16 mention as 3 Marys, traditionally regarded as Mary Magdalene, Mary of Clopas, and Mary Salome. Typically, in illustrations of this scene, it is St. Mary Magdalene who is portrayed, alone with the angels.

We think a post card of this would be cool. If you would lie one but don't see it, remeind us.

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14", and 1.75" for larger sizes. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt. We updated this print in 2024, performing some highly technical restorations that makes it look great even at large format sizes.

– Acid-free paper
– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
– Cardboard backer
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
