We found this sweet, old-fashioned prayer to Mary which we paired with this lovely, old-fashioned image of the Immaculate Heart. It brings us joy to say this prayer; we love offering everything to Mary. We hope you enjoy it, too. Everything sure needs her protection.

This card was as a souvenir for pilgrims to Einsiedeln, one of the great Catholic pilgrimage destinations of Europe. Although not as famous today because of Fatima, Lourdes, and Lisieux, Einsiedeln still draws hundreds of thousands of people every year to the Our Lady Chapel at the large Benedictine Abbey. The abbey itself has been a popular pilgrimage site for a thousand years.

The publisher was Gebr. C. & N. Benziger, who started making holy cards in Einsiedeln in 1792. C. & N. were the sons, Charles and Nicholas, who got their father into the new lithograph technology. The company is still in business today as RCL Benziger. (source: rclbenziger.com)

O Mary,

Virgin most powerful and

Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven

and Refuge of sinners,

we consecrate ourselves

to thine Immaculate Heart.

We consecrate to thee our very being

and our whole life; all that we have,

all that we love, all that we are.

To thee we give our bodies, our hearts

and our souls; to thee we give our homes,

our families, our country.

We desire that all that is in us

and around us may belong to thee,

and may share in the benefits

of thy motherly benediction.

Amen.

Original mid-19th Century Swiss lithograph
