St. Gemma Galgani is called “The Daughter of the Passion,” and you can tell why when you read her prayer on the back of this holy card. She was on fire for God, and we hope her prayer helps us all who read it and pray it have more fire for God.

She was a Servant of God, which this Italian card calls her on the front, from 1910 to 1931. She was part of the Passionist religious order, and was a mystic who suffered deeply in union with Christ. Her mother died when she was young, as did some of her siblings. She turned down two marriage proposals and instead helped raise her surviving siblings after her father died. 

On June 8, 1899, at the age of 21, she began to display signs of the stigmata. She had conversations with her guardian angel, Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and other saints--especially Saint Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows. She had a remarkable life, even though it was not a long one. She died in Lucca, Italy on Holy Saturday, April 11, 1903, at the age of 25 and was canonized in 1940. Her feast day is April 11. She is a patron saint of students and those who seek purity of heart.
