The Angel Gabriel is delicately making the annunciation to Mary, holding the lilies of purity, and reaching out to her while gesturing to God. Mary is delictately receiving that word.
Vladimir Borovikovsky (1757–1825) was a Ukranian painter whose father was an icon painter. He painted religious work, and many portraits, around 500, which is why paintings like these two are so beautiful. They were on two church gates which also included the four evangelists. 1804-1809. Originals are 29 inches diameter.
For the background of the pictures, we used a screen shot of The Church of the Annunciation in Nazareth, Israel, the traditional place where the Anuunciation took place.
