"Jesus took Peter and James and his brother John with him, and led them up on to a high mountain where they were alone. And he was transfigured in their presence, his face shining like the sun, and his garments becoming white as snow; and all at once they had sight of Moses and Elias conversing with him." Matthew 17:1-3
Jesus revealed the true glory of his Divine nature before the Passion, to his closest three apostles. With the presence of Elias and Moses, Jesus reveals himself as the fulfillment of prophecy and the source of Grace needed to follow the commandments. The exquisite artwork is restored from a late 19th century chromolithograph, published in Vienna by Ludwig Lott.
The back of this card contains an excerpt from a homily given by St. Leo the Great. The Catechism cites it as foundational for understanding of the Transfiguration (celebrated August 6). We think you’ll find it ponderable and will enjoy rereading it. St. Leo delivered it the Second Sunday of Lent in the year 445.
