This charming holy card features a young Jesus tending some of his sheep; he is the Young Shepherd. Roses on the left for love, and thorns for the Passion, lilies on the right for purity. Crosses in the corners, and above the scene, the Eucharist. Besides being overall attractive, there is a kindness in the composition we find quite to our liking.
We have not been able to discern the signature of the artist, so they remain unknown for now. But the style seems early Twentieth Century to us. We think the framing elements top and bottom have a slightly Art Deco look, while the ornamental flowers mark it with a straightened Art Nouveau feel. We are just guessing, but the complicated decorations likely place it pre-War, and we think it’s no later than 1930 because of the way the face is painted. Probably European. Italian, or maybe French. We could be wrong!
In any event, it is a lovely Catholic piece that conveys the love and kindness of our Eucharistic Lord. Our priest said the other day that if people don't believe in the tenderness of Jesus, they won't receive as much, because they don't believe in it. That's not a tautology! Jesus says our faith saves us, and he gives us our faith, but we accept it. He is the only God, and he is the God of Love! Let us accept his love and tenderness!
We hope to make this a holy card soon.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a blank border around the image. Approximately 0.5" wide for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14, and 1.75" for 13x17 and 16x20. For the two poster sizes, 18x24 and 24x36, we use 0.5" borders. We do this because the ratio of the rectangle of the art almost never matches the rectangle of the paper, and if it did happen to match one size, it would not match the others. Most fine art printers do this because otherwise they’d have to crop the art or warp it to make it fit the paper. The border looks good. It gives the picture a faux matted appearance.
There is almost always a little more border either on the left-right sides, or the top-bottom, depending on whether the ratio of the art is wider or taller than the paper.
We make Archival Quality fine art prints:
– Acid-free paper
– Archival pigments
– Cardboard backer for sizes 11x14 and less.
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal-clear bag.
– Rated to last 200+ years without fading if kept dry and out of the direct sun.
Thanks for your interest!
