Few people had as much impact on American Catholicism in the 20th Century as Venerable Bishop Fulton Sheen (1895–1979). Early on he embraced the new technologies of radio and television as vehicles for promoting the message of Jesus Christ. A brilliant man with a firm faith, he became a media superstar of that era. His wisdom is still widely available on YouTube and elsewhere, not to mention his many books. I can personally attest that his meditations on the Rosary are excellent and illuminative, and sometimes we pray the rosary along with his recordings. His insights are timeless.
This exclusively restored picture shows him at the microphone, which is fitting. But besides his public charisma, he was also a great theologian. He earned the Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy in 1923 and then taught theology and philosophy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He started his national radio show, The Catholic Hour, in 1930, and it was popular for 20 years. His television shows were, Life is Worthy Living (1952-1957), and The Fulton Sheen Program (1961-1968). He won two Emmys. He was internationally famous. The name Fulton was his mother’s maiden name, and they called him that from childhood. (source: wikipedia.com)
As with all of our restored photographs, we hope this picture helps you to be closer to this holy man. He waits for us on the other side, and he will pray for you now to our Lord if you ask him to.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a blank border around the image. Approximately 0.5" wide for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14, and 1.75" for 13x17 and 16x20. For the two poster sizes, 18x24 and 24x36, we use 0.5" borders. We do this because the ratio of the rectangle of the art almost never matches the rectangle of the paper, and if it did happen to match one size, it would not match the others. Most fine art printers do this because otherwise they’d have to crop the art or warp it to make it fit the paper. The border looks good. It gives the picture a faux matted appearance.
There is almost always a little more border either on the left-right sides, or the top-bottom, depending on whether the ratio of the art is wider or taller than the paper.
We make Archival Quality fine art prints:
– Acid-free paper
– Archival pigments
– Cardboard backer for sizes 11x14 and less.
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal-clear bag.
– Rated to last 200+ years without fading if kept dry and out of the direct sun.
Thanks for your interest!
