Virgo Fidelis is one of the ancient titles of by which we celebrate Mary in the Litany of Loreto. This image of it comes from an illustrated set of all the titles done by one of our favorite artists, Ezio Anichini, in 1912. The style is one of the most popular of that time and still one of our favorites, Art Nouveau, or Stile Liberty in Italian.

A few years later, a seamstress, unknown to history, took 12 of Anichini’s pictures and made them into superb needlework. They are regarded as masterpieces of beauty, design, and execution.

In this one, we have perhaps a mother praying for her sick and injured child. She is kneeing before an icon of the Blessed Mother, and at the same time, the Blessed Mother is standing beside her, hearing her prayers and blessing her and her child. That is meta enough to please most post-modernists, and is a great reminder that Mary listens to all our prayers, that she is quite responsive and polite, and that she draws near to us when we ask her into our prayers. Pray with her in confidence, because Jesús listens closely to his mother!

This is the 12th and final print we share from that wonderful series of embroideries, and in some respects, it is our favorite. There is a bit of blue around the flowers, making it the only one to have cool colors along with the sienna-copper-gold-and-brown family. We think the emotion and detail of the picture are exquisite. As of this writing, we are the only source for art prints of this picture in the world, although that may change. We have also included it in our sets of Loreto prints.

If you love this series as we do, you can own 8, 9, 10, 11, or all 12 of them at big savings. Go to this link to find out how:

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.

– Acid-free paper
– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
– Cardboard backer
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
