This quotation comes from a piece of writing found in Saint Teresa of Avila's breviary after her death. The full text is:

Let nothing disturb you, let nothing dismay you.
All things pass: God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God finds he lacks nothing.
God alone suffices.

Saint Teresa was a 16th century Spanish Carmelite. She was a writer, a mystic, and a reformer of the Carmelite order. In her writings, especially the Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle, she emphasized the importance of contemplative prayer. She spent much of her time and energy working to lead the Carmelites back to the full observance of the primitive Rule. She founded many new monasteries. In 1970 she was named a Doctor of the Church. The painting is by Alonso del Arco, from 1700.

Although she lived, as we do, in a time of great upheaval, change and disorder, Teresa knew that prayer steadies a shaky soul. When we are troubled, we can take solace in the knowledge that "God never changes".
